Private Nabonzy was awarded the Silver Star. The citation reads “Private Nabonzy crawled and climbed across steep and rocky terrain to administer to the wounded. A casualty was reported in a forward outpost position and though aware of the hazard, he unhesitatingly exposed himself to heavy enemy mortar fire to reach his injured comrade. Evacuation of the wounded man was necessary and Private Nabonzy assisted him up the mountainside to an aid station. While returning to his company to continue his work, he was fatally wounded. His outstanding courage, dogged determination and devotion to duty saved many lives”
His brother, Joseph Nabonzy, also made the ultimate sacrifice.
