The Vermont Watchman (13 April 1887) - The buildings on what is known as the Frank Johnson farm, onWest Hill, owned by A.E. Judevine, were burned on the night of April 7th. The buildings wereunoccupied by any family at the time, buyt Frank Thompson and Mrs. Gilchrist were moving in andpurposed occupying the premises the 8th. We understand most of their household goods were burned.Probably insured.
The Vermont Watchman (13 April 1887) - A slight correction of an item of last week seems needed. Our statement that the buildings burned on West Hill were not occupied proves to be untrue. Theywere occupied by Mrs. Gilchrist, and had been for some time. The moving referred to was probablythe driving there of some stock by Mr. Thompson. We supposed the information upon which our formerstatement was based was reliable. Her married name was Gilcrease. Irene L Parks was also known as Irene L Gilcris. The emigrant ancestor of the American family was descended from the Fosters of the North ofEngland, who were among the most ancient and well known families of that country. They intermarriedwith many of the eminent northern families, and occupied many prominent positions. Like most oldfamilies, the origin of the Fosters is somewhat legendary. One account gives as the first Foster inEngland, a Sir Richard Forestarius, brother-in-law of the Conqueror, and consequently son ofBaldwin V, of Flanders. Another account calls him Sir William Forestier, 'a Norman cavalier;' and agenealogy of the Fosters published in England, calls him Gilbert de Buckton, from his place ofresidence, or Gilbert Forester, from his occupation. The Foster coat of arms bears three bugles, the crest being a bent arm bearing a broken lance. Themotto is 'Si Fractus Fortis.'
