Allen Perley was born in January 1608 at Wales. He married Susanna Bokenson in 1635. Allen Perley died on 28 December 1675 at Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts, at age 67.
He was Puritan. He (Research):The Perley family has been one of considerable importance in New England since earlycolonial times. Its members have been found in all the learned professions; in nearly every trade;and have served in both the army and navy. For about a hundred years, they all lived within aradius of about five miles, a spot sometimes called the 'charmed circle', from which they havetravelled to all parts of the Union.
The oldest document about the family is a chart which gives the male descendants of Allen for fourgenerations. It is stated on this chart that he came from Wales, England, and landed atCharlestown, near Boston, July 12, 1630.
A good deal of time has been give to searching out Allen's English ancestry, but thus far, withoutsuccess. Although the name Perley, variously spelled, has been found, no Allan has been discovered. He immigrated in 1630 to Charlestowne Village, MA; Winthrop History states 1631.
From Perley Family History: Mr Perley came to this country, at the age of twenty-two years, in thefleet with Govenor Winthrop, and located in 'Charlestowne Village', on land which is now includedin the city of Woburn. Why he relinquished his settlement is a matter of conjecture. The rigorsof his first winter were extreme: the sufferings of the settlers were intense. 'The weather',reads Lendrum's History of the American Revolution, 'held tolerable until the 24th December, butthe cold then came on with violence. Such a Christmas Eve they had never seen before. From thattime to the 10th of February their chief care was to keep themselves warm, and as comfortable inother respects as their scant provisions would permit. They were so short on provisions that manywere obliged to live upon clams, mussels, and other shell-fish, with gound-nuts and acorns, insteadof bread. One that came to the Governor's house to complain of his sufferings, was prevented, being informed that even thre the last batch was in the oven. The poorer sort were much exposed, lying in tents and miserable hovels, and many died of scurvy and other distempers.' Such anexperience would dishearten the most resolute; in fact:some of the Board of Assistants,'according to Bancroft's History of the United States, 'men who had been trusted as the inseparablecompanions of the common misery or common success, disheartened by the scenes of woe, sailed forEngland'. Many others also went home for the same cause. He immigrated on 1 April 1635; Came from London England to Ipswich, MA in 1635.
